Since the mid 1990's, many banks and other financial institutions
have invested heavily in digital imaging products to reduce costs
and improve customer service. Check imaging is one area that banks
have looked at closely.
More than 63 billion checks are processed annually in the United
States, and the number is growing at about 3% per year. This growth
continues despite the advent of e-commerce and electronic banking.
A complete check imaging/ workflow system from companies like CSC
and NCR indexes the checks as they are scanned.
A single CD can store the images for about 10,000 checks (front
and back). One cube100 can store one million check images on CD,
or nearly seven million check images on DVD.
Up to ten, network-attached cubes can be attached to a single server.
Using cube700s, these provide enough nearline capacity for about
480 million check images.
Integrated RAID storage in each cube provides quick access to cached
data. However, in an environment with many gigabytes or even many
terabytes of information, you can add direct-attached storRAID modules
to provide additional cache space.

cubeStudio creates duplicate discs - for offsite storage, or for
distribution to bank branches and corporate customers. cubeStudio
records and labels CD and DVD discs in one step and attaches directly
to the cube host.
Check information, whether stored as originals, as paper copies,
on microfilm, or digitally, must retained for a minimum of five
years (depending on the state).
In addition to storage costs, research and customer inquiries can
greatly increase costs. With check imaging, both storage and image
access (research and inquiry) costs can be greatly reduced through
automated processes.
